The requested amount of assistance is a sum of those stated in the UN 2005 Work Plan (an assistance plan worth approximately US$1.5 billion, which compiled emergency assistance projects that were scheduled to be implemented by the UN organizations in 2005) and in the Report on the Joint Assessment Mission (JAM) for Sudan (a development project that has been implemented jointly by the World Bank and the UN with the support and participation of the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) for nearly a year, which targets Sudan's transition period that will last until 201). Of the US$7.9 billion needed for development until 2007, US$2.6 billion was sought from the international community. In order to work together and implement this assistance project for the international community, the Sudan Reconstruction and Development Fund was established; it is administered by the World Bank.
