A UN regional institute established in 1962 based on an agreement between the UN and Japan with the aim of promoting the sound development of criminal justice systems and mutual cooperation in Asia and the Pacific Region. The institute is operated by Ministry of Justice of Japan, with the entire expenses of UNAFEI activities borne by the Government of Japan.
