An interim conference for determining the status of implementation of the Paris Declaration will be held in Accra, Ghana in 2008. Japan, along with the US, the UK, and the European Union (EU) will represent bilateral donor countries and will be involved in preparations for this conference. To ensure that Japan's position is reflected in the agenda and results of this conference, Japan is leading discussions concerning three necessary measures for further improving aid effectiveness: (1) empowerment; (2) improving aid effectiveness by new donor countries; and (3) improving aid effectiveness by sector (especially the infrastructure sector).
