Corporate activities at private enterprises in the United States and Europe that contribute to the development of developing countries are flourishing, and there are cases where profit-pursuing projects are directly connected with development. For example, French food manufacturer Group DANONE sells enriched yogurt at low prices in South Africa and Bangladesh, and also works with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to ensure sanitary and safe water in Africa through the 1 Liter for 10 Liters Project conducted by UNICEF and Volvic. Anglo-Dutch Unilever contributes to improving child nutrition in developing countries through the sales of iodized salt. For a concrete example of a private foundation, see Chapter 2, Section 1 for details on how the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation contributes to development.
