In July 2007, a new strategy for eradicating Chagas disease was developed under World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Margaret Chan's Neglected Tropical Diseases Initiative. Focus was also placed on Japan's efforts to combat the disease at the international conference where the new strategy was announced.
