The requested amount of assistance is a sum of those stated in the UN 2005 Work Plan (an assistance plan worth approximately US$1.5 billion, in which emergency assistance projects that are to be implemented by the UN organizations in 2005 are compiled) and in the Report on the Joint Assessment Mission (JAM) for Sudan (a development project that has been implemented jointly by the World Bank and the UN with the support and participation of the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLMA) for nearly a year, which targets Sudan's transition period that will last until 2011. Of the US$7.9 billion needed for development until 2007, US$2.6 billion is to be sought from the international community.
