*1 Millennium Project

- The Millennium Project is an independent advisory body to UN Secretary-General Annan launched in July 2002. This project conducted research and analysis focusing on strategies for achieving the MDGs, with specific attention given to priority areas, implementation methods, and mechanisms for providing funds.
- In 2004, Japan contributed US$500,000 to the Millennium Project through the United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP ).
- The report from the Millennium Project was submitted to the UN Secretary-General in January 2005. The report presents "Ten Recommendations," followed by analyses and recommendations concerning the following issues: each country's processes toward achieving the MDGs (e.g. each developing country should develop MDGs-based poverty reduction); recommendations on international systems (e.g. specification of the "Fast Track" countries, development of MDGs-based poverty reduction strategies, global human resources development); costs and benefits for achieving the MDGs (e.g. the need to increase the amount of ODA in order to achieve the MDGs, donor countries should achieve the target of 0.7% of GNI).
