Winter Wheelchairs Available at Mt. Yakebitai (February 8) Mt. Yakebitai, in Shiga Kogen, is the site for the alpine slalom and snowboard giant slalom events. At the bottom of the race course there are some wheelchairs, complete with tire chains, for people to use while watching the races. When I saw the wheelchairs, I thought they were a great idea. Now anyone--even elderly, injured, or disabled people--would be able to watch the events without worrying about slipping or falling. But the crowds were so thick I also wondered whether a person in a wheelchair would really be able to make it up to the front to see the races . . . (Report from Yamanouchi Middle School: T.O.)
