About 50 minutes from Tokyo, at the entrance to Nagano Prefecture, the train makes its way over the Usui Pass. Coming out of a tunnel there, passen gers are greeted by Mt. Asama. The 2,568-meter (8,425-foot) peak is an active volcano--look for the white smoke coming out of its top!
