Colder ice is harder, and hard ice is
better for the sudden stops and quick
turns hockey players have to do. Rinks
used for hockey are about 3 degrees
Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) colder
than those used for figure skating, where
the ice is softer and easier on skaters'
legs during their high jumps and
landings.
