Women's
ice hockey will make its Olympic debut at
Nagano. (The other two first-time Olympic
sports will be curling and snowboarding.)
A growing number of women's ice hockey
teams are springing up in countries all
around the world. Six countries will
enter teams in the Nagano Games. Japan,
as the host country, will be joined by
the top five finishers in the World
Championships: Canada, China, Finland,
Sweden, and the United States. The rules
for women's hockey are the same as for
the men, except that body-checking is not
allowed.
