Joetsu Shinkansen (the Asahi): This bullet train runs between Tokyo and Niigata, one of the snowiest places in Japan. A number of technologies have been developed to help the trains get through the heavy snows. For instance, the front of the train is shaped like a snowplow, helping it to clear the tracks as it zips along. The tracks themselves are equipped with hot water sprinklers and hot air blowers to melt snow and keep the line safe for travel.
