VISITING EXPO SITE |
I have visited the EXPO 2005 site in Aichi, Japan!
It was a somewhat foggy summer day, and I felt much more comfortable there than I have been in Tokyo where it has been a unusually hot this summer.
From JR or Meitetsu Nagoya Station, I took Higashiyama Subway Line to Fujigaoka Station. Next to the Fujigaoka Station, a new station for "Linimo" is under construction. "Linimo" is the first maglev liear motor car in Japan. It will connect Fujigaoka and the EXPO Site from early next year, but I had to take a bus to visit the site.
The bus traveled along the Linimo track for about 20 minutes (by Linimo, it will take just 10minutes) and arrived at the North Gate of the EXPO site. If you are lucky, you can see Linimo's test run.
In February 2004, from the hill in the EXPO site, I could look around the whole EXPO site because there were no buildings when I was there. At that time, you could see the GLOBAL HOUSE which is the central building of the Global Common, and GLOBAL ROOP which is a barrier-free walkway from the hilltop.
Now, landscape is completely different. Buildings of COMMON 6 and JAPAN PAVILION obstructed the view of GLOBAL HOUSE.

It was really exciting to see the appearance of new constructions. Now you can see the roof of the EXPO DOME where Opening and Closing ceremonies will be held, and other buildings.

From the Middle of September, buildings in the Global Common will be handed over to participant countries and international organizations. And they will decorate the interior and exterior of the buildings with their original designs.
Then......The World will be coming to Aichi!
