Japan's Security Policy

On January 10 in Jakarta, H.E. Mr. MASAKI Yasushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, and Air Vice Marshal H. Haris Haryanto, Director General of Defence Strength, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, signed and exchanged notes for 1 billion yen in “Official Security Assistance (OSA)” FY 2024 project.

  1. Indonesia plays a pivotal role in ensuring stability of the Indo-Pacific region, facing important sea lanes. As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner sharing fundamental values and principles, Japan and Indonesia have been promoting cooperation in security and various other areas.
  2. Through this project, Japan will provide the Indonesian navy with high-speed patrol boats. It aims to contribute to enhancing monitoring and surveillance capabilities of Indonesia as a key archipelagic country in the region. It is expected to further advance security cooperation between Japan and Indonesia.
  3. The notes will enter into force on the date of receipt by the Government of Japan of the written notification from the Government of Indonesia about the completion of necessary domestic procedures.
