- On Thursday, July 26, the first meeting of the Japan-Ukraine Joint Committee for the cooperation to advance aftermath response to accidents at nuclear power stations will be held in Tokyo.
- From the Japanese side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Mr. Toyohisa Kouzuki, Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau, the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and the Environmental Agency, as well as officials from concerned organizations are scheduled to attend the meeting. From the Ukrainian side, officials from the Ministry of Emergencies of Ukraine headed by Mr. Volodymyr Kholosha, the Head of State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the Ministry of Emergencies of Ukraine, and government officials are scheduled to attend the meeting.
- In this meeting, discussions will be held on the current condition of measures taken after the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Station accident and future policy between Japan and Ukraine, who have experienced an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station.
- The first meeting of the Japan-Ukraine Joint Committee for the cooperation to advance aftermath response to accidents at nuclear power stations will be held on the basis of the "Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of Ukraine concerning Cooperation to Advance Aftermath Response to Accidents at Nuclear Power Stations" concluded in May 2012. It is expected that cooperative relations between the two countries following the nuclear power plant accidents will further progress through this meeting.
