Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, to Attend the Trilateral Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Japan, the People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of Korea

1. Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Shangai, the People’s Republic of China, on September 28 (Mon) and 29 (Tue). There, he will attend the Trilateral Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Japan, the People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of Korea to be held in the same location.
2. This Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is to be held following the Meeting which took place in Tokyo in June 2008, where it was agreed to hold Foreign Ministers’ Meetings hereafter in each of the three countries in turn. Dr. Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, will chair this Meeting and Mr. Yu Myung-hwan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea, is also scheduled to attend.
3. This Meeting will steadily advance the trilateral cooperation based on the Action Plan agreed upon at the Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit held in Fukuoka in December 2008. Arrangements for the Second Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit will also be made and a trilateral exchange of opinions pertaining to the situation on North Korea and other regional and international situations is scheduled to be held.
4. In light of this opportunity, an additional exchange of opinions pertaining to topics such as regional situations and bilateral relations with the Chair of this Meeting, China, is also scheduled to be held.
