Visit to the People's Republic of China by Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs

1.   Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Beijing, the People's Republic of China from October 9 (Fri) to October 10 (Sat) to attend the 2nd Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit that will be held on October 10 (Sat) in Beijing. The Summit is hosted by Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan, and Mr. Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea, are also scheduled to attend.

2.   The Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit was first held in 2008 in Fukuoka as an event independent from the various ASEAN Summit Meetings. At the Summit, discussions focusing on the progress and prospects of trilateral cooperation and the regional and international situation are scheduled to be held.

3.   Minister Okada is also scheduled to take this opportunity to hold discussions with Chinese leaders and exchange views with them regarding such topics as future Japan-China cooperation to promote a "Mutually Beneficial Relationship Based on Common Strategic Interests".
