The 4th Japan-Finland Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and Technology

- The 4th Japan-Finland Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and
Technology will meet on September 29 (Mon), at MITA Conference Hall in Tokyo.
- This Committee meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr.
Seiji Kojima, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), as Chairperson, and representatives of the Cabinet
Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
(MEXT), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and on the
Finnish side by Mr. Petri Peltonen, Director-General of the Innovation Department,
Ministry of Employment and the Economy, as Chairperson, and representatives
of the Science and Technology Policy Council, the Finnish Funding Agency
for Technology and Innovation, the Academy of Finland, and the VTT Technical
Research Center of Finland.
- In this Joint Committee meeting, Japan will exchange information and opinions with Finland, which is engaged in the promotion of a comprehensive innovation policy, having great strength in research and development as well as high levels of education - Finland was ranked the best in the world in the Programme for International Student Assessment of OECD, and also in the World Economics Forum's Global Competitiveness Report for four consecutive years from 2001 - about policy on science and technology, and the situation and prospects of individual cooperation between research organizations.
