Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, to Visit the United States of America, Russia and Egypt

- Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will visit the United States of America, Russia and Egypt from April 28 (Sat) to May 6 (Sun) upon receiving Cabinet approval.
- In the US, Foreign Minister Aso will have Japan-US Foreign Ministerial Talks with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss bilateral relations and international issues such as the situation in East Asia and the Middle East. Mr. Aso will also attend the Security Consultative Committee (2+2) meeting and the “US-Japan Strategic Leadership Program” hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to discuss cooperation in the restructuring of the US Forces in Japan, the ballistic missile defense and so on.
- The Foreign Minister’s visit to Russia was agreed in February this year when Prime Minister M. E. Fradkov visited Japan. Foreign Minister Aso will have consultations with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on bilateral relations including the Northern Territorial issues, and on pressing international issues, in order to further deepen political dialogues with Russia, an important neighbor of Japan, and reinforce the relationships between the two countries.
- In Egypt, Foreign Minister Aso will attend “the Expanded Ministerial
Meeting of Iraq’s Neighboring Countries on Stabilization of Iraq” to participate
in consultations aimed at the stabilization of Iraq, and widely call the international
community’s attention to Japan’s assistance for Iraq.
