Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to Visit Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

- Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will visit Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from August 28 (Mon) to 31 (Thu).
- In Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Koizumi will hold a summit meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev and in Uzbekistan with President Islam Karimov.
- Japan has come to be actively involved with Central Asia for the sake of the region's stability, by promoting self-sustaining development and intra-regional cooperation among Central Asian countries. This will be the first time in history for a Japanese prime minister to visit Central Asia, and during his visit, Mr. Koizumi will convey Japan's policy of active involvement directly to the leaders of the two countries, who have important roles in the stability and development of the region, and will exchange views on the strengthening of bilateral relations and the international issues including the regional situations.
