Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan, to Attend Extraordinary Meeting of the Co-chairs of Tokyo Donors Conference

- Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan on Peace Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Sri Lanka, will visit Norway from April 27 (Thu) to April 29 (Sat) to attend an extraordinary meeting of the four Co-chairs of the Tokyo Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Sri Lanka to be held on April 28 (Fri) in Oslo.
- Attending the meeting will be Mr. Akashi of Japan, Mr. Erik Solheim, Minister of Development Cooperation of Norway, Mr. Richard Boucher, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, State Department, Mr. Herve Jouanjean, Deputy Director-General, EU Commission for External Relations.
- The Government of Norway proposed this hastily-arranged meeting, following the postponement of the direct talk on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, scheduled to be held between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The meeting will exchange views on the increasing tension in Sri Lanka's peace process as demonstrated by the terrorist bombing at the Army Headquarters in Colombo on April 25; and other matters such as future prospects and necessary measures.
- This meeting will be the seventh of its kind.
