Symposium "Peace Building in Afghanistan: Symposium on Progress in Post-war Reconstruction and Related Issues" to be held with the Participation of Mr. Norihiro Okuda, Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Afghanistan

- A symposium entitled "Peace Building in Afghanistan: Symposium on the Progress in Post-war Reconstruction and Related Issues" will be held on February 28 (Tue) at the United Nations University. The symposium, commissioned and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and held amidst recent active discussions on peace-building including the establishment of Peace building Commission, will focus on Afghanistan, which has entered a new stage of reconstruction as demonstrated at the London Conference. The participants are expected to discuss the modalities of peace-building assistance, based on Japan's reconstruction efforts and the diplomatic outcome in the country as a case study.
- The symposium will have televised participation of Mr. Norihiro Okuda, Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Afghanistan, and Mr. Kin-ichi Komano, the former Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Afghanistan, will act as a moderator of the symposium. The representatives from Afghan cabinet members including Mr. Ali A. Jalali, the former Minister of Internal Affairs, experts who have played active roles in post-war reconstruction and peace-building in the country with onsite experiences, NGO representatives and others concerned will also participate in the symposium.
