The First Meeting of the Japan-India Joint Study Group

- The First Meeting of the Japan-India Joint Study Group will be held in New Delhi on July 18th and 19th.
- The Joint Study Group will be comprised of representatives from the industrial, governmental and academic sectors. The Japanese side will be headed by Mr. Mitoji Yabunaka, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Indian side by Mr. Ashok Kumar Jha, Secretary (Economic Affairs), Ministry of Finance.
- The Meeting will comprehensively consider means to strengthen economic relations between Japan and India, with a view to submit a report to the prime ministers of both countries within a year.
- The Joint Study Group was launched at the Japan-India summit in Vientiane last November and elaborated in the action plan "Eightfold Initiative for Strengthening Japan-India Global Partnership", which was issued during Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit to India in this April.
