Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Foreign Minister, to Visit Pakistan and India

  1. Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will visit Pakistan and India from August 10 (Tue) to 14 (Sat).

  2. In Pakistan, Foreign Minister Kawaguchi will hold talks with Mr. Khurshid Mahmoud Kasuri, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, over wide-ranging matters including bilateral relations, counterterrorism, disarmament and non-proliferation, and regional issues. The Minister is also scheduled to exchange views with leaders of the Pakistani government on such issues as bilateral relations, and the international situation.

  3. In India, Foreign Minister Kawaguchi will hold talks with Mr. Natwar Singh, Foreign Minister of India, on specific measures for further strengthening the Japan-India Global Partnership. The Minister will also exchange views with leaders of the Indian government on bilateral relations, global issues, etc.

  4. This is Foreign Minister Kawaguchi's first official visit to Pakistan (excluding a stopover at Istanbul airport on her way to Afghanistan in May 2002), and her second visit to India (first visit: January 2003).
