Asia-Africa Public Private Joint Forum

- The Asia-Africa Public Private Joint Forum, co-hosted by the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will take place on May 24 (Mon) and 25 (Tues) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in cooperation with the Government of Malaysia.
- The Forum will be attended by Ambassador Masaharu Kohno, Director-General for Sub-Saharan African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the chief delegate of the Government of Japan, and will be co-chaired by Dr. Shinsuke Horiuchi, Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (former Japanese Ambassador to Kenya), and Mr. Zephirin Diabre, Associate Administrator of the UNDP. Attendants will also include director-general-level officials of trade and investment-related ministries and agencies of Asia and Africa, representatives of local business enterprises, and department chiefs of related international organizations. From Japan, the representatives of Japanese corporations operating in Africa will also participate, in addition to the representatives of related ministries and agencies including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The Forum will be held as part of the follow-up of the Third Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD III) and is intended to realize sustainable development in Africa through the promotion of trade and investment between Asia and Africa. Focusing on such promotion, the Forum will analyze the current situation and future prospects of trade and investment between Asia and Africa and will exchange wide-ranging views on the significance of the private sector and the roles of the governments (assistance measures) for the development of Africa.
