Mission for Policy Dialogue on Mekong Region Development

- The Government of Japan will dispatch a mission for policy dialogue on the Mekong Region Development from April 25 (Sun) to 29 (Thu) to the Philippines (visit to the Asian Development Bank Headquarters), Viet Nam and Cambodia.
- The mission, headed by Mr. Tetsuki Hirose, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will comprise representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related ministries and agencies, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
- The mission will be dispatched on the basis of the Japan-ASEAN Plan of Action released at the Japan-ASEAN Commemorative Summit (meetings of leaders and foreign ministers) in December 2003 for the purpose of addressing the Mekong region development more proactively and strengthening cooperation with the countries in the Mekong region and institutions of proven achievements in local development, such as Asian Development Bank.
- Japan will separately dispatch missions to the other ASEAN countries in the Mekong region (Thailand, Myanmar and Laos), which this mission will not visit.
