Visit to Japan by Mr. Youcef Yousfi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Algeria

- Mr. Youcef Yousfi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria, will visit Japan from May 28 (Sun) to 31 (Wed) as Guest of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
- During his stay in Japan, Mr. Yousfi will meet with Mr. Yohei Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and others to have a wide-ranging exchange of views on bilateral relations, the regional situation and the international situation.
Algeria is currently the chair of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
- This will be the first visit to Japan by an Algerian Minister for Foreign Affairs since the country became independent in 1962. Mr. Yousfi himself has visited Japan several times: as the Minister of Energy and Mining in 1998 to attend an investment promotion seminar held here, and several other times as the President or the Vice President of the Algerian Petroleum and Gas Public Corporation.
