Ninth Japan-Pakistan Joint Commission Meeting

  1. The Ninth Japan-Pakistan Joint Commission Meeting will be held on February 16 (Tue.) in Islamabad (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan).

  2. The Japanese delegation will be headed by Mr. Minoru Tamba, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Pakistani delegation by Mr. Shamshad Ahmad, the Foreign Secretary.

  3. At this meeting, there will be a wide-ranging exchange of views on bilateral relations and the international situation in general, including on the issue of nuclear non-proliferation.

  4. When President Zia-ul-Haq visited Japan in July 1983, Japan and Pakistan agreed on the establishment of this commission with a view to expanding the cooperative relationship between the two countries in fields including politics, economy and culture. The previous meeting was held in April 1996 in Tokyo.
