Ninth Japan-Pakistan Joint Commission Meeting

- The Ninth Japan-Pakistan Joint Commission Meeting will be held on February 16 (Tue.) in Islamabad (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan).
- The Japanese delegation will be headed by Mr. Minoru Tamba, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Pakistani delegation by Mr. Shamshad Ahmad, the Foreign Secretary.
- At this meeting, there will be a wide-ranging exchange of views on bilateral relations and the international situation in general, including on the issue of nuclear non-proliferation.
- When President Zia-ul-Haq visited Japan in July 1983, Japan and Pakistan agreed on the establishment of this commission with a view to expanding the cooperative relationship between the two countries in fields including politics, economy and culture. The previous meeting was held in April 1996 in Tokyo.
