Official Visit to Japan by Mr. Jaswant Singh, the Minister for External Affairs of India

  1. The Minister for External Affairs of India, Mr. Jaswant Singh, accompanied by Mrs. Singh and officials, will pay an official visit to Japan at the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan from 23rd to 27th November 1999.

  2. During his stay in Japan, Minister Singh will have an official talk with Mr. Yohei Kono, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on bilateral relations and international affairs including nuclear issues. He will also exchange views with other Japanese political and private figures.

  3. The coming Foreign Ministerial Meeting will follow the meetings between Minister Singh and the then Minister Koumura in July in Singapore and in September in New York. It will also be the second high-level dialogue after the establishment of a new Government of India, following the visit to India by State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr. Ichita Yamamoto in October. As an official visit by a Minister for External Affairs of India, Mr. Jaswant Singh will visit to Japan after four years since the last official visit by the then External Affairs Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, in 1995. From Japan, Mr. Yukihiko Ikeda, the then Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid an official visit to India in 1997.
