The 1st Coordinating Committee Meeting for Thailand - Japan Working Groups on Infrastructure, Disaster Management and Dawei Development

- As follow-up to the Japan-Thailand Summit meeting held in March this year in Tokyo, the 1st Coordinating Committee Meeting for Japan – Thailand Working Groups on Infrastructure, Disaster Management and Dawei Development was convened on Monday, September 24 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in Bangkok.
- Participants from the Japanese side included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Cabinet Office; Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications; Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Tourism; and Embassy of Japan in Thailand. Those from Thai side included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Interior; National Economic Social Development Board; Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT); Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Science and Technology. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Masato Otaka, Minister of the Embassy of Japan and Mr. Thongchai Chasawath, Deputy Director-General Department of East Asian Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
- At the Meeting, both sides shared their intention to continue to cooperate each other towards implementation of the infrastructure projects in Thailand such as satellite, ICT and railways. Bearing in mind devastating floods in Thailand last year, they exchanged views on the competition in Conceptual Plan for the Design of Infrastructure for Sustainable Water Resources Management and Flood Prevention for the Kingdom of Thailand and share the view of the importance of the cooperation in the field of disaster management. As for Dawei development, they concurred on continuing to exchange the view on this matter closely.
- Each of the Working Groups between Japan and Thailand will continue to meet in the future at mutually convenient dates.
