On Monday, July 2, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for around 30 minutes, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Koichiro Gemba, paid a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. General issues on Japan-Viet Nam relations
    Foreign Minister Gemba welcomed a visit to Japan by the "Viet Nam Constitution Research Mission" headed by Deputy Prime Minister Phuc and stated that the mission is deepening and expanding the "strategic partnership" between the countries and vitalizing human exchanges.

  2. Cooperation in the economic field
    In response to a request by Deputy Prime Minister Phuc that Japan continue its assistance for the economic and social development of Viet Nam, Foreign Minister Gemba pointed out that Japan and Viet Nam share an extensive number of strategic interests, and he stated that Japan would support Viet Nam's efforts for the socioeconomic development. Deputy Prime Minister Phuc commented that the amount of trade between the two countries will likely reach approximately 25 billion dollars this year, and Foreign Minister Gemba mentioned that Japan and Viet Nam share frameworks such as the Economic Partnership Agreement and Japan-Viet Nam Joint Initiative, and that Japan intends to steadily implement these frameworks and further promote investment and trade.

  3. Other issues
    Foreign Minister Gemba and Deputy Prime Minister Phuc exchanged views on issues related to the region and the international arena.
