Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the tensions in the Gaza Strip and its surrounding area

March 12, 2012
Japanese

  1. The Government of Japan is deeply concerned about this situation, in which rising tensions between the Israel Defense Force and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip and its surrounding area, since March 9, have caused deaths and injuries, including civilians.

  2. Japan sends condolences to the bereaved families, and calls upon both Israel and Palestinian militants to exercise maximum self-restraint and avoid further deaths and injuries.

  3. Japan is convinced that the problems which people in the Middle East face can never be solved through violence but only through negotiations and efforts to build mutual trust among the parties to the conflict. Japan urges that all parties concerned make the utmost efforts to that end.
