Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan , on the Artillery Attack on Turkish Territory from Syrian Territory

- Japan expresses its deep regret at the artillery attack from Syrian territory on Wednesday, October 3 (local time), which resulted in the death of five people and injuries to nine in Akcakale, Sanliurfa, Turkey (as reported by the Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Turkey), and strongly condemns such an act of transboundary vilolence. Japan expresses its heartfelt condolences to the victims and the bereaved families.
- Japan hopes that all the parties concerned will take a calm response to the artillery attack so that the situation will not be further aggravated.
- Japan will increase diplomatic efforts and continue to work together with Turkey and the rest of the international community to immediately stop all types of violence in Syria, including by applying pressure on the Government of Syria.
