Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Presidential Election of the Republic of Zambia

Japan welcomes the peaceful conclusion of the Presidential election of the Republic of Zambia, held on Tuesday, September 20. Japan congratulates H.E. Michael Chilufya Sata, the leader of the Patriotic Front, on his election as President of the Republic of Zambia.
From Japan, Ambassador Akio Egawa, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, and Embassy officials attended the election as electoral observers, upon the request of the Government of Zambia.
Japan hopes that under the leadership of President Sata Zambia will continue to promote socio-economic development and contribute to maintaining peace and stability in Africa. Japan also intends to further strengthen the friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and Zambia.
