Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the decision regarding the construction of housing units in East Jerusalem
August 8, 2011
- The Government of Japan expresses its disappointment and is deeply concerned about Israel’s approval of the construction of more than 900 new housing units for Jewish people in Har Homa of East Jerusalem. Such an act goes against the efforts by the international community to resume the negotiations for peace.
- The Government of Japan does not recognize any act that prejudges the final status of the territories in the pre-1967 borders, and Israeli settlement activities should be fully frozen. Japan strongly calls upon Israel to refrain from any unilateral act that changes the current situation in East Jerusalem.
- Japan strongly hopes that the negotiations for peace will be resumed soon.
