Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Situation in Lebanon

  1. On Thursday, July 7, a new Cabinet led by Mr. Najib Mikati, President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Lebanon, was officially inaugurated. Japan expresses anew its hope that this will enhance political stability in Lebanon and the peace and stability of the Middle East as a whole.
  2. Japan takes note of the fact that Prime Minister Mikati announced in his policy speech on the same day, that his new Cabinet intends to cooperate with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon set up based upon the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1757. Japan hopes that Lebanon will establish the rule of law within the country through its efforts including cooperation with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
