On Wednesday, April 27, Mr. Takeaki Matsumoto, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Khalid Bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the State of Qatar, during his stay in Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the beginning, Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude for the warm message of sympathy delivered from H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar as well as Qatari people, and for increased supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan from Qatar in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
    In response, Minister Attiyah conveyed the message of condolence and sympathy for the victims of the tragic disaster from Emir Hamad, and the Qatari government's intention to donate 100 million US dollars (approximately 8 billion yen) for early recovery from the disaster.
    In response, Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude for the initiative taken by Emir Hamad, and stated that he would like to cooperate with the Qatari side so that it could be spent for the recovery from the disaster in a prompt and effective manner.

  2. Two ministers exchanged views on some topics including climate change and current situation of the Middle East.
