Statement by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan on Clashes between Demonstrators and Security Forces in Syria
April 13, 2011
- The Government of Japan is deeply concerned at the situation that has developed since the middle of March in several cities in Syria where clashes between demonstrators and security forces have resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. In particular, Japan finds it most regrettable that a situation has developed in which weapons have been used against demonstrators. Japan hereby appeals to all concerned parties to refrain from the use of violence.
- Japan strongly hopes that the promotion of political reforms in Syria will be concretely implemented without delay in the interest of Syria’s sustainable development and in order that the country can play an important role in establishing peace and stability in the region.
