  1. Mr. Yutaka Banno, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Yalcin Mumcu, the leader of Turkey’s Aid/Rescue Team and four other members of the team, and Mr. Evren Akyol, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Turkey in Tokyo. Turkey’s Aid/Rescue Team was working in Shichigahama-machi of Miyagi prefecture and other areas from Monday, March 21 to Friday, April 8 in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake.

  2. Mr. Banno stated that Turkey’s Aid/Rescue Team (consisting of 32 personnel) is highly praised by local residents and others for their vigorous activities continued in Miyagi prefecture for approximately three weeks. Mr. Banno also stated that the team’s activities further enhanced the friendly ties between Japan and Turkey, and expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Government of Japan.

  3. In response, Mr. Akyol and Mr. Mumcu stated that Japan was one of the countries that provided the most prompt and comprehensive assistance in response to the Earthquake Disaster in the Northwestern Part of Turkey that occurred in 1999, and it is Turkey’s turn to offer assistance to Japan. They also stated that they expect the relations between the two countries will be further strengthened in the future.
