Situation in Côte d’Ivoire (Intrusion into the Ambassador’s Residence)

1. On April 6 around 4:20 p.m. (JST) (7:20 a.m. of the same day, local time), several soldiers likely affiliated with former President Laurent Gbagbo broke into the residence of H.E. Mr. Yoshifumi Okamura, Japanese Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire.

2. Ambassador Okamura took shelter in the residence together with two local staff members and five security guards. Thanks to the efforts of the French military and United Nations, all were rescued on April 7 at 7:21 a.m. (JST) (April 6 at 11:21 p.m., local time).
