In response to the Tohoku district – off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake, the Government of the Republic of Iceland announced that the government would provide relief money of 10 million ISK (about 7.1 million yen).

From Iceland, condolences were extended from President of the Republic of Iceland H.E. Mr. Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iceland H.E. Ms. Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Republic of Iceland H.E. Mr. Össur Skarphéðinsson, Speaker of Althingi H.E. Ms. Ásta R. Jóhannesdóttir and others.

H.E. Mr. Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of the Republic of Iceland (on Wednesday, March 23), H.E. Mr. Össur Skarphéðinsson, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Republic of Iceland and H.E. Mr. Geir Haarde, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Iceland (on Friday, March 18) wrote a message in a condolence book at the Embassy of Japan in Iceland. The Government of Japan deeply appreciates a sense of solidarity expressed and assistance extended by the Government of Iceland and the people of Iceland.
