Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on Demonstrations in Southern Syria

- Japan is closely monitoring the situation in southern Syria where demonstrations have been taking place since Friday, March 18. Japan is concerned about the deaths and injuries that have been caused as a result of the clashes between the protestors and the authority.
- Japan calls upon the Government of Syria to respond in a restrained manner to peaceful demonstrations, without resorting to violence. Japan also hopes that the Government of Syria will listen to its citizens, proceed with various reforms, and achieve stability and growth as a country playing key role for peace in the Middle East.
