  1. Prime Minister Kan received IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano today.

  2. In the meeting, Director General Amano stated the following:
    (1) I offer my sincerest condolences for the bereaved and many who lost their lives in the 2011 Tohoku – Pacific Ocean Earthquake and subsequent tsunami. I would like to express my respect for the leadership and initiatives taken by Prime Minister Kan.
    (2) There is heightened interest within the international community on the accident at the nuclear power plant and also a great deal of willingness to cooperate with Japan on this issue. The IAEA has dispatched an expert team for radiology measurement and is also ready to coordinate other international offers expressed.
    (3) The IAEA has been receiving information from Japan, but the international community feels that it would be helpful if there was more and detailed information.

  3. Prime Minister Kan stated the following:
    (1) We will do everything to overcome this disaster.
    (2) Every single resource available to us in Japan has been mobilized, including those of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Self-Defense Forces (SDF), the Police, and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
    (3) The policy of the government has been to communicate all confirmed information, but we will strive to improve the quality and content of information released. I vow to inform the international community, including the IAEA, with utmost transparency.
    (4) We wish to continue to cooperate closely with the IAEA and other countries.
