  1. Today (Friday, March 18), Mr. Yutaka Banno, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohammad Lutfi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan and three representatives of the humanitarian support team of Indonesia (Indonesian Rescue Team).

  2. Ambassador Lutfi expressed his sympathy to those who suffered from the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake and reported the arrival of the humanitarian support team of Indonesia today. He stated that the government of Indonesia would offer two million dollars and 10,000 blankets to the government of Japan and that Indonesia would be ready to extend all necessary assistance to Japan.

  3. In response, Mr. Banno expressed his gratitude for messages of sympathy from Dr. H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia and the people of Indonesia. He asked Ambassador Lutfi to convey his gratitude to President Yudhoyono for the personnel and material assistance extended by the government of Indonesia. He appreciated Ambassador Lutfi for making effort to secure the safety of Indonesian nationals who have stayed in the area affected by the earthquake. He expressed the determination of the Government of Japan to do its utmost effort to overcome this difficulty caused by the disaster and to cooperate with other countries again. In relation to ARF-DiREx co-chaired by Japan and Indonesia, Mr. Banno stated that Japan would like to cooperate with the other countries in the region including Indonesia for disaster relief.
