Meeting between State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yutaka Banno and Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan

- On Saturday, March 12, from 15:30 for about 15 minutes, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yutaka Banno held a meeting with Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan and the representatives of the Chinese residents’ associations in Japan. At the beginning of the meeting, Chinese participants handed over to the State Secretary 4,573,000 yen in donations for the victims of Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake.
- On behalf of the Government of China and Chinese people, Ambassador Cheng Yonghua expressed his sympathy for a heavy damage caused by the earthquake and their wish for the early recovery of Japan and Japanese people. He stated that the Government of China is preparing for dispatching an emergency rescue team and providing relief supplies at any time.
- State Secretary Banno thanked for the cordial words of sympathy as well as the donations and stated that Japan would like to make good use of China’s donation for the victims. He stated that the Government of Japan deeply appreciates the warm proposal of the Government of China on an emergency rescue team and relief supplies, and that he would like to consider the proposal based on the actual needs from the site.
