  1. On Tuesday, February 15, Prime Minister Naoto Kan received a courtesy call from a delegation of nine members of the State Great Hural (National Assembly) of Mongolia.

  2. Representing the delegation, State Great Hural member Mr. Luvsannyam Gantumur expressed his appreciation for the Japanese Government's support of Mongolia up to now, and also emphasized the importance of further strengthening the economic relationship between the two nations in future, including with respect to the development of Mongolia's mineral resources and the conclusion of the Japan-Mongolia Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

  3. Prime Minister Kan said that Japan wished to develop its relationship with Mongolia even further with the aim of building a strategic partnership, which is a diplomatic goal common to both nations. Moreover, he specifically expressed Japan's expectations over the promotion of cooperation between the two nations on the development of Mongolian mineral resources including coal, uranium and rare metals as well as over the prospect of an early start to the negotiations concerning the Japan-Mongolia EPA after the beginning of April.
