Courtesy Call to Mr. Koichiro Gemba, Minister for Foreign Affairs, by Participants (Vice-Foreign-Minister Level) in the Sixth Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue

On Thursday, December 1, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for around 25 minutes, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Koichiro Gemba, received a courtesy call from representatives (vice-foreign-ministers, etc.) of five Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) that participated in the Sixth Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the beginning of the meeting Foreign Minister Gemba welcomed the holding of the SOM, and also explained that Japan has placed great value on its relationship with Central Asia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992 and intends to promote further regional cooperation in Central Asia via the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue.
- The Central Asian side expressed gratitude for Japan's support in the Central Asia region thus far, and highly praised Japan's initiatives toward regional stability and development as a result of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue.
- In response, Foreign Minister Gemba said he was delighted with the substantive discussions that took place at the SOM and is looking forward to discussing the further development of this framework with the foreign ministers of the five Central Asian countries at the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue next year.
