October 14, 2011
- On Tuesday, October 11, the Government of Myanmar announced to grant amnesty for 6,359 prisoners and started the release of them on Wednesday 12. Among them, 205 political prisoners are included by October 13 according to democratic forces in Myanmar. The Government of Japan evaluates the release of those political prisoners and some measures recently taken by the Government of Myanmar as concrete positive steps toward democratization and national reconciliation.
- We expect that the Government of Myanmar will continue to further strengthen its dialogue with the international community as well as strengthen its efforts towards further democratization and national reconciliation.
- We will continue to support the Government of Myanmar for solidifying the trend of democratization and national reconciliation.
