Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the postponement of the opening of the Lower House of Afghanistan

  1. On January 19th, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai decided to postpone the opening of the new Lower House of Afghanistan for a month at the request of the Special Court, which was established to inspect some fraudulent cases in the Lower House Election last September.

  2. It is Japan’s hope that the Lower House will convene as soon as possible and that progress will be made in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan.
