Mr. Seiji Maehara, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Lodges Representations to Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Concerning the Detention of Japanese Nationals in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province

- Mr. Seiji Maehara, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, summoned Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly after 4 p.m. on September 27 (Mon) and lodged representations concerning the four Japanese nationals detained in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, the People’s Republic of China.
- Minister Maehara requested that China secure the safety of the Japanese nationals, permit consuls and attorneys to visit and interview them continuously, and resolve the case promptly.
- In response, Ambassador Cheng stated that he would promptly report the representations precisely to his government.
